Each year for Pumpkin Palooza, any student enrolled in an Engineering Science class may enter, either individually or in teams of up to four members, the pumpkin catapult launch. Dr. Linda Lim has had her class participate every year and this year we had a record eight teams!
The goal is to design and build a device to launch an uncooked mini pumpkin at a target placed approximately 85 feet away. The propulsion must be mechanical — no explosives or compressed gasses are allowed. No slingshot type devices are allowed and the device must be able to be launched without risk of injury to the person(s) doing the launching.
