Leadership in the Office, the Classroom, and the Community (Part Two of Two)
Thursday, Nov. 12, from 1 – 2:30 p.m.
A John Quincy Adams’ quote, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader,” focuses not on the leaders’ accomplishments as an individual, but on what leaders can bring to a group to help its members succeed.
Join Physical Plant Director Rich Edwards, a retired colonel, to learn about the foundations of leadership and how leadership affects organizational culture and, in turn, how organizational culture affects individual performance and morale. Leadership is an expected role for instructors and supervisors, but can become the role of almost anyone in a given time and place.
Impromptu Speaking
Friday, Nov. 13, from 10 – 11:30 a.m.
It is important for a college instructor to be able to comfortably and with confidence answer questions or discuss various concepts without preparation. Through various improvisational theatre exercises that encourage participants not to overthink, this workshop introduces how to avoid the mental blocks that can occur when engaging in impromptu discussions while at the front of a college classroom. Through what is known as the distraction technique, participants learn to focus on their bodies, audiences, and imaginations in order to indirectly find the right words to use when on the spot in a higher education learning environment.
