President Matonak named honorary chair of homelessness coalition

President Drew Matonak is serving this fall as honorary chairperson of the Capital Region Coalition to End Homelessness, which kicked off Homelessness Awareness Month on Nov. 6 with an event at the Future site of Community Connections/Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless in Albany.

Most of us are aware that homelessness is a growing problem in many communities, but you may not be aware that there are 56,000 homeless college students throughout the country.

Among its efforts, the Coalition to End Homelessness is joining forces with Howard Glassman, owner of The Low Beat in Albany, for a concert on Friday, Nov. 13, that will benefit both the Coalition and Food Pantries for the Capital District. Patrons need only $10 and a can of food to enjoy four local bands!

Shown with Drew at the kick-off event are NYS Assemblyman Jim Tedisco, Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, US Representative Paul Tonko, Commissioner Samuel Roberts of the NYS Office of Temporary & Disability Assistance, Janine Robitaille,  executive director of Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless, Rensselaer County Executive Kathy Jimino, NYS Senator Neil D. Breslin, Saratoga Springs Mayor Joanne Yepsen, and NYS Assemblymembers John McDonald and Patricia Fahy.
