Welcome back from your friendly Institutional Effectiveness Office!
It’s a new semester and we’re raring to go. What amazing feats of assessment derring-do await you, you are asking yourselves with great anticipation…. ?
Middle States Monitoring Report and Campus Visit: Let’s start with an update on the upcoming Middle States Monitoring Report and Campus Visit. The Monitoring Report, due to Middle States on March 1, 2016, is in progress. The report is the college’s response to last June’s Middle States decision to take the campus off warning and to reaffirm accreditation and to request another monitoring report followed by an Evaluation Team visit sometime in March 2016. The Evaluation Team will be comprised of two external reviewers from post-secondary institutions, our Middle States liaison officer Dr. Elly Fogarty, and Dr. Deb Moeckel from SUNY System Administration.
The Monitoring Report provides documentation and evidence of continued implementation of a “comprehensive, organized, and sustained process for the assessment of institutional effectiveness with evidence that results are used to improve teaching and learning.” The report includes updates on all assessment and planning activities, such as progress made by the college on the 2014 – 2019 Strategic Direction and Priorities, the Strategic Enrollment Plan, General Education, and the Strategic Technology Plan, and evidence that assessment results, including those from student learning outcomes assessment, are used to improve teaching and learning and to advance the institution in achieving its mission. Evidence presented in the document include examples of such changes at both the departmental/unit level and the institutional level.
As we work on the Monitoring Report it is clearly evident that Hudson Valley has come a very long way on the road to having a solid institutional effectiveness process in place, and how much work the campus community has done to get us there.
We will keep you posted as we go through and complete this process.
Assessing the Assessment Process: As part of the ‘assessing the assessment process,’ this past December the Assessment and Institutional Effective Committee developed and distributed the ‘Assessment of the Assessment and Planning Process’ to all of the college’s department and unit heads to elicit feedback on the just-completed annual assessment and unit plan update process. The feedback that we received is very valuable and we are following up on several items. Respondents gave their input on the training and resources that were offered through the fall and offered suggestions as to how to further improve the assessment and planning process.
Thank you for completing the survey and for your valuable feedback.
Assessment Hotline: As a result of a suggestion in the ‘Assessment of the Assessment and Planning Process’ the Institutional Effectiveness office is setting up an Assessment Hotline. The Assessment Hotline will include an exclusive phone extension and email address, both going to the Institutional Effectiveness office. Once these have been established, we will send out a notice to the campus.
