3.0 New Business

  • 3.1 Change in Prerequisites and change in Prerequisites or Corequisites – CNST 231 Building Service Systems – submitted by Dr. Christine LaPlante
    Proposal requests change in current prerequisite – CNST 103 and MATH 105 or MATH 110 or MATH 150 to CNST 103 and MATH 099 or a higher level Math and addition of MATH 100 as a prerequisite or corequisite.  Materials covered in proposed math classes are more applicable to skills needed to be successful in CNST 231.
  • 3.2 Reintroduction of Course after 7 Semester Hiatus With No Change – ESLS 090 Basics for English as a Second Language – submitted by Dr. Maria Palmara
    This course has been inactive since Spring 2004.  Proposal requests to reintroduce the course with no changes.  ESL advisement indicates a student base exists for this course.
  • 3.3 New Course – PSYC 209 Adulthood and Aging – submitted by Dianne Zielinski
    Proposal for a new developmental psychology course that examines changes related to adulthood, from emerging adulthood until death. Nursing students have expressed an interest in such a course.  Serving the adult population is a fast growing service-industry for medical professionals, human service specialists, and public policy professionals.
  • 3.4 Change in Degree Requirements – Dental Assisting Certificate – submitted by Judith DiLorenzo
    Proposal Request replacing the current requirement of ENGL 120 with ENGL 120 or ENGL 125.
  • 3.5 Change in Degree Requirements – Nursing A.A.S. – submitted by Pat Klimkewicz
    The proposal requests that degree requirements ENGL 101, ENGL 102, PSYC 100, PSYC 205, PSYC 210, and the Humanities Elective now require a grade of “C” or better for program completion.  It is important that students have a competent level of knowledge in each of these courses to apply to the field of nursing.
  • 3.6 Discontinue Degree Program – Chemical Technician A.S. – submitted by Dr. Peter Schaefer
    Proposal requests to discontinue the Chemical Technician A.S. degree which was deactivate in 2011.
  • 3.7 Deactivate Course – PHYS 125 Physics for Telecommunications Technology – submitted by Dr. Peter Schaefer
    Proposal requests to deactivate this course which was part of the Verizon Next Step program which was deactivated in Fall 2013.  No students are being accepted into the program and all current students have already taken the course.
  • 3.8 New Course – CISS 218 Introduction to Big Data & Analytics – submitted by James Looby
    The proposal request a new elective course. Big data represents an extreme volume of data that is too large and costly to analyze with traditional relational database and statistical methods. The goal of the course is to identify patterns and trends in the data facilitating increased understanding of human behavior and complex data sets.
  • 3.9 Change in Prerequisite – CISS 215 Project Management – submitted by James Looby
    The proposal requests a prerequisite of CISS 100 Introduction to Computing and Information Science or CMPT 101 Computer Concepts and Applications I or (CMPT 111 Information Processing and CMPT 115 Introduction to Business Analytics with Microsoft Excel) with a grade of “C” or better or permission of department chair.
  • 3.10 Change in Prerequisite – EXER200 Fitness Assessment, Evaluation and Program Design – submitted by Colleen Ferris
    Proposed to add grade of C or better or by permission of department chair to the existing prerequisite EXER 100.  This will assure preparedness for the field experience associated with EXER 200.
  • 3.11 Change in Degree Requirements – Physical Education Studies A.A. – submitted by Colleen Ferris
    It is proposed that the current 17 Physical Education elective credits be restructured to include 8 credits of required PHED and HLTH courses and 9 credits of PHED or HLTH electives.
  • 3.12 Deactivate Course – THEA 150 Voice and Movement – submitted by Scott Hathaway
    Proposal is to deactivate the course as it is a course not easily transferable and students aspiring to pursue the technical side of theatre art would not require the skills and knowledge provided by this course.  THEA 150 is not a SUNY identified Lower-Division major requirement for Theatre Arts.
  • 3.13 New Course – THEA 240 Theatre History I – submitted by Scott Hathaway
    According to the SUNY transfer path for Theatre a theatre history course is part of the coursework required for graduation in the Theatre Arts major.  Introducing this course will give students pursuing a degree on Theatre Arts the opportunity to fulfill this requirement.
  • 3.14 Change in Degree Requirements – Theatre Arts A.S. – submitted by Scott Hathaway
    Proposal request removing required course THEA 150 Voice and Movement and replacing it with THEA 240 Theatre History I to comply with the Lower Division major requirements of the SUNY transfer path for Theater.
  • 3.15 New Course – CRJS 195 Victimology – submitted by Dr. Ann Geisendorfer
    Proposal requests a new course designed to provide the student with varied perspectives on crime victimization including history and measurement of victimization, the science of victimology, consequences and forms of victimization, victims’ rights and victim advocacy.
  • 3.16 Change on Degree Requirements – Criminal Justice A.S. – submitted by Dr. Ann Geisendorfer
    Proposal requests the 12 credit restricted elective be redefined as Western Civilization elective (3 credits), Gen Ed Arts Elective (3 credits), and two LAS/Gen Ed electives (6 credits). This change eliminates confusion and guarantees 7 different Gen Ed requirements are met.  In addition Foreign Language II will be replaced with a LAS/Gen Ed elective.
  • 3.17 Change in Program Entrance Requirements and Change on Degree Requirements – Forensic Science Studies A.S. – submitted by Dr. Ann Geisendorfer
    Proposed change in entrance requirements high school average of 85 or above, high school chemistry with a C or better, and high school pre-calculus.  Transfer students from another college or institution need a 3.0 GPA.  Proposed degree requirements change MATH 170 Pre-calculus now required.  Restricted elective now PSYC 100 or SOCL 100 leaving a 4 credit restricted elective to include BIOL 275 and CHEM 205.
  • 3.18 New Program – Cybersecurity A.S. – submitted by Ann Geisendorfer
    The proposed new program is a joint effort between the CIS and CFP departments.  Crime has evolved with the increased use of digital devices.  The risk of losing data through a breech in security has been a major concern.  This program will educate students in this area with computer expertise and knowledge of the criminal justice system components and concepts.
  • 3.19 New Course – EDUC 101 Introduction to Secondary Education – submitted by Dr. Dawn Kolakoski
    The proposed new course will examine the foundations, philosophy, methods, and materials used in middle, junior high, and high school classrooms and will include supervised weekly field experience.
  • 3.20 Change in Degree Requirements – Liberal Arts & Sciences: Adolescent Education A.S. – submitted by Dr. Dawn Kolakoski
    The proposed changes will align the courses in the concentrations with the Adolescent Education SUNY tracks for transfer path and the prescribed 64 credit cap. The required courses have been revised to meet the 7 of 10 genera education courses required leaving room for two education courses.
  • 3.21 Call for Nominations for Co-Chairs for 2016-2017 academic year – nominations will remain open until the next meeting on May 2nd
