The Teacher Preparation Department will celebrate the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s annual “Week of the Young Child” with a series of workshops and lectures. All events are open to the public and campus community!
Rainstick Workshop
Monday, April 11 — 2 to 4 p.m. (HGB 100)
Presented by Dr. Dawn Kolakoski. Participants will create a rainstick to use in a classroom with children. Registration and a $2 materials fee required. Please register by Friday, April 1 with Debby at 629-7250.
How to Begin Your Job Search in Education
Tuesday, April 12 — noon to 1 p.m. (HGB 100)
Presented by Shawnna Case from the Center for Careers and Transfer. Join us for a discussion on interview strategies, networking skills, and how to begin your job search.
The Sensory Diet
Wednesday, April 13 — 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. (HGB 100) Presented by Paula Buchanan, a part-time Teacher Preparation faculty member, who holds a certificate of clinical competency in speech-language pathology. We will discuss what the word “sensory” means and begin to identify children who avoid sensory information and children who crave continuous sensory input.
Bullying Prevention: The Role of the Educator
Thursday, April 14 — noon to 1 p.m. (HGB)
Presented by Martha Beck. This workshop will examine the nature and causes of bullying by children in an educational setting. Strategies for promoting bullying prevention will by discussed.
Smiles For Life
Friday, April 15 — noon to 1 p.m. (HGB 100)Presented by Ericka Kosloski and Francesca Nastasi. This workshop will provide early childhood educators with oral health resources that are practical and developmentally appropriate for children.
Refreshments will be provided at each event and participants will receive a certificate of attendance.
