Reminder: The deadline for this year’s David A. Garfinkel Essay Scholarship is Friday, April 1, 2016 at 5 p.m.
This year’s topic: What role does jury service play in our democracy?
Eligibility: The scholarship is open to all students enrolled in a New York Community College in the Fall 2015 and/or Spring 2016 Semester! We encourage students from all disciplines to submit essays.
Prizes: Six scholarship prizes are available through the contest, three for CUNY students and three for SUNY students. The top prize for each group is $1,500 with runner up prizes of $1,000 & $500.
Rules: Essays must be between 1,500 and 5,500 words in length. Your essay must contain original writing and research.
Last year, Melanie Hecker, a Human Services student at Hudson Valley Community College, earned an Honorable Mention for her essay LGBT: The Road to Equality — How have the New York Courts addressed equal Human Rights for the LGBT Community? It could be you this year!
