A message from the New Student Orientation Task Force:
The New Student Orientation (NSO) Task Force is charged with evaluating the orientation process from the students’ perspective and providing recommendations to improve the student experience. (See the Campus Chronicle post describing President Matonak’s creation of the task force.)
We welcome input consistent with our charge and invite the campus to comment during several open forums scheduled in the coming months.
There are two options for commenting:
1. Attend one of the public open forums by selecting a date and time convenient to you.
2. If you are unable to attend, submit comments via an online form. Comments will be read aloud by a task force member during a designated period during one of the open forums.
A five-minute comment period will be provided or 650-word written statement may be submitted. Additional forums may be scheduled if the requests for comment exceed the allocated times available in the three open forums.
Open forums are scheduled on:
Monday, May 16 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 9 from noon – 2 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 12 from 2 – 4 p.m.
All forums will be held in the Marvin Library Learning Commons multipurpose room (MRV235) and are open to the campus community. Those attending may bring a brown bag lunch or beverage.
Individuals may request time to speak at the May 16 open forum or provide comments which will be read on their behalf. Use this online form to request a comment time or to submit comments: Requests for comment (in person or written) at the May 16 forum must be received by noon on Friday, May 13. Schedules to comment at the September forums will be made available soon.
The task force co-chairs will report on the group’s progress to the President and at Academic Senate meetings with the intention of completing recommendations in Fall 2016. Updates will be posted in the Campus Chronicle. (Meeting minutes are attached here.)
