President Matonak delivered this report at the September Board of Trustees meeting
ENROLLMENT — As of census date, fall enrollment is -2.6% behind this time last year in headcount in the number of enrolled and paid students (10,666; -273) and -3.8% behind last year in FTE (7420; -290). We will have a final fall report once registration closes for Sprint courses and College in the High School courses.
TECHNOLOGY ISSUES ON CAMPUS — As we discussed at the last meeting, we had a number of technology issues at the start of this semester, and the ITS staff has worked diligently to stabilize the computing environment. In your materials is the update our CIO, Jonathan Brennan, sent to the employees and students last Friday.
ALL COLLEGE MEETING — On Monday, September 19, we held the Fall 2016 All College Meeting. If you didn’t get a chance to watch it live, the video archive can be accessed at www.hvcc.edu/secure/staff/allcollege/index.html. The program is included in your materials.
WATER LEAK IN FITZGIBBONS — We had turn off the water to Brahan and Fitzgibbons this morning due to a water leak in the basement of Fitzgibbons. The water was restored within an hour, and the damage is still being evaluated. The source of the leak is still unknown.
HOMECOMING — The Capital Region is invited to participate in our 2016 Homecoming events. They include:
- Thursday, Oct. 6: Fall Fest from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 pm, the highlight of which is the annual faculty/staff v. students Viking Cup Challenge softball game. Later that day, we’re hosting a media tour of the new Outdoor Athletic Complex.
- Friday, Oct. 7: Outdoor Athletic Complex Alumni Sneak Peek from 4:30-6 p.m., followed by the Athletic Alumni Reunion Reception, from 6-8 p.m. in the McDonough Sports Complex. Also at this time, the Nursing Class of 1966 will be holding their 50th anniversary reunion.
- Saturday, Oct. 8: Pre-game Tailgate Party from 11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m., followed by the dedication of the Outdoor Athletic Complex. At 1 p.m., the football team plays its first home game against Valley Forge Military College.
- Sunday, Oct. 9: The 8th Annual Race Away Stigma 5K Race and Fun Walk. Registration begins at the student pavilion at 8:30 a.m., with the race beginning at 9 a.m.

FOUNDATION UPDATE — Regina LaGatta has the following information to report:
§ Our thanks to all of you on the Board for your generous support of the Foundation Gala on Oct. 14 to benefit the Educational Opportunity Center. Please let Suzanne know if you are planning to attend.
§ Thank you to all who were able to attend the Leadership Donors Reception on Sept. 14, where we presented the Philanthropy Award to Doug Baldrey.
§ The Foundation is pleased to be the co-sponsor of the Student Empowerment Series, which is comprised of three interactive workshops focused on building leadership skills. For details, please visit www.hvcc.edu/empowerment
§ In conjunction with the Office of Communications and Marketing, the Foundation was a sponsor of the Business Review Power Breakfast on Advanced Manufacturing, which was held last Friday. David Davis, president of Simmons Machine Tool and co-chair of the Gene Haas Center for Advanced Manufacturing Campaign (GHCAMS), gave opening remarks, and Professor Dave Larkin was one of the panelists. At your place is the case for support for the CAMS project. On Friday, we will be at GE Power Systems to accept a $25,000 donation from GE for the naming of the GHCAMS Student Advisement Center and to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the HVCC/GE Program.
ENROLLMENT/MARKETING REPORT — At your place and on the portal is the quarterly Enrollment/Marketing Report, which also included the year-end summary of 2015-16 activities.

UPDATE ON PRESIDENT’S ACTIVITIES
§ On Sept. 7-8, I attended the New York Community College Association of Presidents (NYCCAP) meeting.
§ On Sept. 8-9, I attended the Chancellor’s meeting with the SUNY Presidents.
§ Regina and I attended the press conference at UAlbany on Sept. 12 where they announced that their Rensselaer campus will now be known as the University at Albany Health Sciences Campus. It will also be the new home of the UAlbany Innovation Center, which will serve entrepreneurs and researchers on campus.
§ I was able to attend the farewell to Robert Jones at UAlbany on Sept. 14, and then attend the Van Rensselaer Dinner. My thanks to Connie, Manik, Bill and George for attending.
§ On Sept. 16, I was pleased to provide a welcome to Congressman Paul Tonko, who brought his “Capitol Hill in the Capital Region” symposium to HVCC.
§ Today, Bill Jennings, Neil and I attended a meeting with trustees and presidents of our local region’s community colleges.
HVCC FACULTY AND STAFF IN THE NEWS
§ At yesterday’s Academic Senate annual meeting, the Senate honored Dean Chris Helwig with the 2016 Marco Silvestri Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the Senate.
§ Congratulations to Michael Shea, an instructor in our Biology, Chemistry and Physics Department, who was honored as one of the ”20 under 40” at a luncheon held in Queensbury on Sept. 21. I was pleased to be able to attend.

UPCOMING EVENTS
§ Friday, Oct. 7 — As part of Homecoming weekend, the Athletics Department and the Foundation are hosting a reception for alumni from our athletic teams. The reception will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm in the McDonough Sports Complex and you are all invited to attend.
§ Saturday, Oct. 8 — Homecoming and the ribbon cutting for the Outdoor Athletic Complex will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8. Festivities start with a BBQ “tailgate” at 11:15 a.m.; the dedication ceremony starts at 12:20 p.m., and the game kicks off at 1 p.m.
§ Sunday, Oct. 9 — The 8th Annual Race Away Stigma 5k Race and Fun Walk will begin with registration at 8:30 am. at the student pavilion in front of Hudson Hall.
§ The 2016-2017 New York Community College Trustees (NYCCT) Calendar includes the following events being held at the Otesaga Resort Hotel on Cooperstown. We have not seen the agenda yet, but if you would like to attend, please let Suzanne know by Sept. 30.
§ Trustee Institute — Orientation and Education for New and Experienced Trustees, Thursday, Oct. 20 & Friday, Oct. 21.
§ NYCCT 62nd Annual Conference — Friday, Oct. 21 through Sunday, Oct. 23. The NYCCT Trustee Awards Reception and Banquet is Friday, Oct. 21.
HVCC FOUNDATION EVENTS
§ Friday, Oct. 14 — The Foundation Gala to Benefit the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) will be held from 6 -11 p.m. at the Franklin Plaza. The EOC is honoring the Hon. H. Carl McCall, Chairman of the SUNY Board of Trustees and a longtime champion of the EOC program.
