Hudson Valley’s Automotive, Manufacturing and Electrical Engineering Technologies Department has received an early gift this holiday season: a new instructional vehicle.
Frank and Sons Auto Body in Scotia donated the 2007 Nissan Sentra for use as a teaching tool for students in the college’s automotive programs. This particular vehicle will be used by seniors in the Frame and Underbody class in the Autobody Repair program.
“This was a perfect fit for the program,” said Assistant Professor Matthew Perry.
While individuals sometimes donate their used or totaled vehicles to the program, it’s not too often that an independent body shop does the same, Perry said. This particular car’s parts will be used to repair another donated vehicle, which was totaled before it arrived at Hudson Valley. The entire process is part of the curriculum that allows students to develop hands-on skills to be used in the workplace.
“It gives students a realistic look at a real life scenario, to just better prepare them for the field,” Perry said.
