Changes to reserve textbook lending for students in Spring 2017

What’s new with reserve textbook lending in the Instructional Media Center?imc service desk

Starting with the Spring 2017 semester, ID cards will not be held by the Instructional Media Center while items are on loan.

Do I need my HVCC ID card to borrow a book?

Yes! Staff will scan your ID card and then scan the barcode on the book. This will complete the procedure. Staff will immediately return your ID card to you along with the book.

How long can I borrow a book?

Reserve textbooks will continue to be due when the library closes on the day the book is borrowed. Reserve textbooks CANNOT be removed from the library.

What if I return the book overdue?

You will be charged an overdue fine of $3 per day, to a maximum of $30 (10days late).  After 10 days, you cannot return the book, but must pay the replacement cost of the textbook if it were purchased new at the bookstore. The replacement cost will be put on your BANNER account on the first day the textbook is overdue. The overdue fine will also be added on your BANNER account.

If I return the book within ten days, do I still owe the overdue fine?

Yes! Overdue fines must be paid if the book is returned late. Overdue fines are added to the replacement cost if the book is not returned within 10 days.

How do I find out if the textbook for my course is available?

You may ask IMC staff by stating your course number (MATH100, for example). Staff will check to see if the textbook is available. You also may check the library catalog and look up your course number to see if the textbook is available.

How many textbooks may I borrow?

Only one item may be borrowed at a time unless a workbook accompanies the textbook.

Where can I get more information about reserve textbook lending?

Visit the IMC website for a full description or ask staff at the IMC service counter.
