Reminder: Faculty Association nominations due March 10

 

All interested Faculty Association members planning to run for the following positions must submit the required candidate statement and signatures on the Official Nominating Petition_09 to the current Vice President Patty Blacklock in FTZ 319 by the deadline of March 10, 2017.

All eligible nominees will have an opportunity to address their fellow Faculty Association members on March 13  as per the agenda of the general membership meeting scheduled for 2 p.m. that day.

  • FA President (2 year term; 8/2017-8/2019)
    The President shall be the chief executive officer of the Association and its policy leader.  The President shall:

    • Represent the Association as spokesperson on matters of policy or assign responsibility for such representation;
    • Preside at all meetings of the general membership and the Executive Board;
    • Appoint, except as provided by these by-laws, all chairpersons and members of committees, with the advice and consent of the Executive Board; such chairpersons shall serve at the pleasure of the President, except where a term is fixed by these By-Laws;
    • Serve as Chairperson of the Executive Board and have primary responsibility for the functioning of the Executive Board;
    • Prepare with the Executive Board a budget for submission to the membership;
      Administer the budget;
    • Meet regularly with other officers of the Association;
    • Make him/herself available for regular consultation with the membership;
    • Perform the duties stipulated in the Constitution and in the By-Laws, and other duties as are customarily assumed by the chief executive officer of an Association;
    • Attend all meetings, or appoint a surrogate to attend, meetings of the College Board of Trustees;
      Vote only in order to either to make or break a tie vote;
    • Prepare the agendas for meetings of the general membership, the Executive Board, and labor/management meetings;
    • Investigate and prepare potential grievances.
  • FA Secretary (2 year term; 8/2017-8/2019)
    The Secretary shall:

    • Keep and maintain a file of the minutes and attendance of all Executive Board, Faculty Association, and labor/management meetings;
    • Distribute minutes within ten (10) business days following meetings;
    • Attend all labor/management meetings;
    • Manage electronic communication for the Faculty Association;
    • In cooperation with the Vice –President, be responsible for keeping up-to-date membership lists.
  • FA Delegate-At-Large (5 positions; top 2 of 5 voted for will serve 2 yr terms with the following 3 serving 1 yr terms)

The delegates-at-large shall:

    • Represent membership-at-large.
    • Bring issues from the membership to the Executive Board.
    • Accept other duties as assigned by the Executive Board.
  • NYS Teachers’ Retirement System Delegate (2 year term)
    • Both delegates & alternates must be in-service, full-time (e.g., per-annum) employees who are NYSTRS members.
    • 2 Delegates and alternates are elected as a ticket and cannot be split. In other words, an alternate for “Delegate A” may not serve in place of “Delegate B” if the latter is unable to attend the meeting.
    • Delegates main functions/duties:
      • To elect a teacher member to the Retirement Board at the Annual Delegates Meeting;
      • To serve as a liaison between NYSTRS and the delegate’s co-workers;
      • Delegates attend a two-day annual meeting held in October or November where a teacher member is elected to the NYSTRS Board.
      • The delegate may also act as a liaison between NYSTRS and the members of their school district/college.

Although not required, each delegate should also have a corresponding alternate, who would carry out these duties if the delegate were unable to serve.
