Transformation Through Collaboration

 

In a continuing effort to prepare students for college, the Student Activities Office and Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) are co-sponsoring an event that will introduce students and their parents to the abundant educational opportunities available at Hudson Valley Community College.

Transformation Through Collaboration: “Closing The Gap Over The Bridge To Success” will host local middle school and high school students on campus for a day of resource sharing on preparation and transformation to college.

The program is scheduled for Saturday, April 29 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the BTC Auditorium and Meeting Rooms. More than 200 students and parents, representing 12 community educational programs, are expected to attend, according to Louis Coplin, director of EOP and Student Life.

The community partners include: Albany Promise, Albany High School, Albany Charter Leadership School for Girls, Black Child Development Institute (BCDI), the Boys and Girls Club of Albany, the Capital District Sponsor-A-Scholar Program, the Capital District YMCA, Higher Educational Services Corporation (HESC) the Liberty Partnership Program, Make-A-Play, SUNY Systems and 15-Love.

Resource workshops will be facilitated by representatives from each organization and staff members from the college’s Admissions Office, Athletics Department, Continuing Education/Workforce Development Institute, Financial Aid Office, Center for Counseling & Wellness and Center for Careers & Employment.

Coplin said the community outreach partners for leadership, innovation and networking, are very enthusiastic, and are looking forward to strengthening their relationship with Hudson Valley and planning future programs.
