Martha (Marty) Desmond appointed department chair for nursing

 

Congratulations to Martha (Marty) Desmond for her appointment as the Department Chair of Nursing!

Marty earned a B.S. in Nursing from Molloy College in Rockville Centre, NY, a M.S. in Nursing with a major in Adult Health/Educator, as well as a Post Master Certificate as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from Sage Graduate School in Troy, NY.

Currently, Marty is pursuing a doctorate of Nursing Science with an expected date of completion of December 2017. The title of her dissertation is “Senior nursing students’ perception of faculty caring and the caring milieu in two associate degree nursing programs.”

Marty has 37 years of experience as a registered nurse. She joined the Hudson Valley Community College Nursing Department faculty is 2008 and most recently served as the interim DC. In 2015, Marty earned a Merit Award for her dedication and commitment to the Nursing curriculum with a focus on simulation and critical thinking. Marty’s primary areas of proficiency are knowledge of the art of nursing, curriculum development, clinical expertise, and relating  industry experience to current trends and market demands. She prides herself on her ability to motivate and work with diverse individuals.

In addition, Marty is a member of many professional organizations such as Sigma Theta Tau, the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the Northeastern New York Professional Nurses Organization (NNYPNO, formerly District #9) as a director-at-large. Marty also is a member of Ladies of Charity, a Eucharistic Minister, and a volunteer in Lourdes, France assisting sick and dying patients.
