The dead come to life when the Friends of Oakwood present a “Living History Tour: Oakwood Cemetery by Lantern Light” to selected grave sites on a special nighttime walking tour at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14.
In the glow of lantern light, costumed interpreters share the stories of their amazing lives and in some cases their harrowing deaths. Meet a Civil War soldier, a drowning victim, a suffragette, the wife of a national figure and many more. This is not a “haunted” tour, but it is sure to be an eye-opening adventure.
Registration is required by calling 1-800-556-6273 with your name, phone and number in your party. Pay ($15/person) upon arrival at the Gardner Earl Chapel flagpole, where you are assigned to a group and guide. Please bring a flashlight, wear sensible footwear and dress for the weather. An early arrival is recommended so tours can begin on time.
Friends of Oakwood is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the not-for-profit, non-sectarian 19th-century cemetery and its historic chapel.
