Do you think performance evaluations are worth your time? I most certainly do!
Performance evaluation is an opportunity for a manager and an employee to meet and discuss the employee’s job performance, as well as the goals of the employee. Employees want to be recognized for excellent work and believe it or not, they do want to know if there are tasks that need improvement to better support their department.
Performance evaluations are “not” personal; they should be based on performance. They should not be vague, but rather include specific examples that will improve an employee’s performance. Managers need to prepare before meeting with an employee and to be honest in their discussion. Everyone would like to be rated a “rock star” in their performance, but that not always is true. I believe that everyone always can do at least one thing better.
It also is important to follow up with employees on their goals throughout the year. An evaluation is a living document and a great tool to continue to coach and develop employees.
If I can be of any assistance to help you with your evaluations, please give me a shout.
