A Great Orientation “Thank You!”

 

Thank you to all members of the campus community who helped to make New Student Orientation a rousing success!

On Saturday, approximately 1,900 students and guests attended New Student Orientation. A review of evaluations revealed that they were overwhelmingly satisfied with the day’s events. Of the students who completed a Student Orientation Questionnaire, 99.5 percent responded favorably to the question, “Overall, how would you rate your Orientation experience?” Over 99 percent of the parents and guests also responded favorably to the question on the Orientation Questionnaire for Parents and Guests.

When asked about what was most helpful about Orientation, responses from new students included:  “Access to people with answers for your question”; “The staff”; “Information for Blackboard and Online learning”; “All the staff and students around to guide me and answer questions”; “Meeting people”; “The Info Session: ‘Financial Aid: Dollars and Sense’ ”; “The Tour”; The information session of: From High School Grad to College Scholar”; “Experiencing it all”; “Feeling welcome”; “Free time to sign up for clubs”; “Helping explain the transition from High School to college”; “The learning and support services”;  “Finding out the Bus route”; “The General Session ‘What’s Expected of Me as a HVCC College Student’”; “Learning about sport and academic management”; “Learning center”; “Finding out where my classes are”; “I didn’t feel awkward asking ‘stupid’ questions”; “Learning about time management and academic support services”; “The student helpers”; “Getting Ready for Your Future info session”; “Learning about how helpful the professors will be”; “That I could ask anyone with an ‘ask me’ pin”; “Getting to hear from experienced students”; “The Student Handbook”; “Registrar”

Parents’ and guests’ comments included:  “Individual sessions—very helpful”; “Well organized, on time, MANY students to ask questions”; “Plenty of helpful ‘Ask Me’ people”; “Information about how I can help my student”; “Everyone was there to help you get where you needed to be”; “Careers and Transfer”; “Tour”; “Staff”; “Online learning and bus schedules”; “Well thought out community.  Bus service, dental service, library has tutors (awesome!)”; “Information on available student services”; “General Session”; “Knowing that there is support for academics and clubs/organizations to keep student involved”;  “Everything”; “Financial Aid Session—She was very informative—She knew her stuff”; “Student Club representatives”; “Showing support for my child”; “Split up parent and child—student’s role one of responsibility”; “Online info”; “I felt very informed, included and extremely cared about”; “Finding out how to help my boyfriend”; “CDTA bus schedule”; “Student support”; “Coffee!  Great info for the students”;  “Student support services”; “Getting a feel for where my son will be spending the next 2 years”; “Discussions on transfers”; “The Student Life session”; Very professional”

The Orientation was the result of the planning and hard work of many, many individuals throughout our campus community.  Thank you for welcoming our students, parents and guests in such a fine manner.
