Greetings colleagues,
ITS has provided remote access to as many HVCC resources as possible. We recognize that many scenarios are likely missing. If you do not poses the tools you need to work from home, but have been asked to work from home, Please contact the ITS helpdesk at 518-629-7364 to discuss your specific scenario. We will accommodate where possible.
Accessing your HVCC Phone Remotely
Accessing your HVCC phone can now be done in several ways remotely. This article describes those methods and links to some additional documentation.
Softphone
ITS has deployed software within all of the VDI builds called Avaya 1x communicator. This software will allow you to log into your campus phone extension to make and receive calls. A headset is absolutely necessary for this software to work properly. A limited supply of headsets is now available at ITS. If you do not own a headset (either HVCC or personal) Please contact us at 518-629-7364 to request one.
We have created a document that shows how to use this software and will update this post in the coming days to add videos.
Voicemail to email
ITS has now enabled the phone system to deliver voice messages to your campus email address. This provides a convenient way to be alerted to a new voicemail, and listen from within your email.
Please note that these messages are a copy of your voicemails, and you must still routinely log into your email to delete messages. If you do not, your VM box will fill up and stop receiving new messages.
To manage your voicemail box from off-campus:
- Dial 518-629-8088 from your off-campus phone
- Press * then # to log in
- Enter your extension number followed by the # key
- Enter your password, followed by the # key
- Follow the prompts from there
Call forwarding
Call forwarding is available on request. Using this feature, your campus extension can be forwarded to an external phone number. Each call placed using this method consumes double resources on the phone system (one line to receive the call and another to forward), so please use this service as a convenience and continuity of service for the students and community that use our directory. Inter-personnel contact should use Zoom, direct phone calls, or email where possible.
If you would like additional help configuring any of these items, please call the helpdesk at 518-629-7364
Thank you and warm regards,
Jon
