Action for Happiness
The staff in Counseling and Wellness Services welcomes everyone back for another wonderful semester at Hudson Valley Community College!
The Wellness Center’s staff members are available Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (via phone or Zoom sessions) for counseling, consultation, and referral needs of currently registered students, but we wanted to share additional virtual resources that may be beneficial during this time.
Action for Happiness is a movement of people committed to building a happier and more caring society. People who want to see a fundamentally different way of life — where people care less about what they can get just for themselves and more about the happiness of others.

Please visit the Action for Happiness website for more information and resources.
Action for Happiness has created monthly action calendars that “are packed with actions you can take to help create a happier and kinder world.” Each month, Counseling and Wellness Services will be highlighting these action calendars to facilitate a happier and kinder state of being for our campus community. The month of September focuses on self-care, based on the Key of Acceptance from the 10 Keys to a Happier Life (described further down in the post).
“Self-care isn’t selfish, it’s essential. No-one’s perfect. But so often we compare our insides to other people’s outsides. This month we’re encouraging everyone to be kinder to themselves (as well as others), especially when things go wrong. Self-care increases our resilience and helps us get more out of life. It also helps us accept others as they are too.”
Self-Care September
Take action each day of September to focus on self-care and time for yourself.

10 Keys to Happier Living
The 10 Keys to Happier Living are based on a review of the latest research from psychology and related fields. Everyone’s path to happiness is different, but the evidence suggests these 10 Keys consistently tend to have a positive impact on people’s happiness and well being.
The first five keys (GREAT) are about how we interact with the outside world in our daily activities. They are based on the Five Ways to Well Being developed by the New Economics Foundation as part of the Foresight Project. The second five keys (DREAM) come from inside us and depend on our attitude to life.

We encourage you to visit 10 Keys to Happier Living on the Action for Happiness website for more in-depth information about each of these 10 keys.
Wishing you all a happy and healthy semester!
