AIE Committee meeting minutes from March 8

The Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness Committee met on March 8, 2022. The meeting minutes are as follows.

Dr. Margaret Geehan opened the meeting at 1 p.m. It was held via Zoom.

Survey Updates
Committee members reviewed the Assessment Survey line-by-line and discussed whether each question needed a change in wording or meaning before being distributed.

1. I understand the College’s Assessment process as it applies to my department, administration Unit, and the division.

2. The Process as it applies to my Unit, etc.

5. The Process as it applies to decisions that need to be made.

6. My assessment findings influence decision making and resource allocation at the College Level. A change to this affects more than only my department.

The group discussed using survey results for college-wide research and benefit.

The group evaluated the questions in the survey to determine whether they were relevant and appropriate to the survey.

“In my area, what am I doing for continuous improvement?” was another question asked.

The group discussed the expectation that they will make themselves aware of survey results and actively use these results for the improvement of the area.

The results of the previous survey included an indication that unit/department heads would prefer an alternative to the then current paper process.

The group also agreed the survey include an item such as “if you have interacted with the IE Team in the past, has it been helpful?”

The group discussed the difference between the “Agree” and “Overall Agree” options for multiple choice answers to questions on the survey. Since they are so close in meaning, they might confuse people. It was decided to remove the  “Overall Agree” option and replace it with a more standard Likert Scale.

Last year was the first year in a long time during which the diversity of the Hudson Valley Community College student body actually decreased.

Committee members discussed the Campus Chronicle and ways to make its content relevant and interesting to as many people as possible to increase and retain contributors and readers.

Status of Surveys:
Advising — under revision
Employee Satisfaction — in circulation
Student Satisfaction — in circulation
Assessing the Assessment — under revision

Also in progress is the review and revision of the 2020 Institutional Effectiveness Recommendations in order to publish the almost-complete 2021 IE Report.

The meeting was adjourned at 2 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Caitlyn Gerardi
