The Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness Committee met on Sept. 29. The meeting minutes follow.
Dr. Margaret Geehan opened the meeting at 1 p.m.
The committee first reviewed the Institutional Effectiveness (IE) Recommendations section by section, updating the 2019-20 recommendations for 2020-21, and discussed progress made by the college on the 2019-20 Recommendations, adding input by the committee members.
President Ramsammy’s recent request that all employees strive to provide excellent customer service to boost enrollment and retention was discussed and the committee created a customer service task to more effectively accomplish this. This is something the committee and other groups on campus will work on in the immediate future.
Ainsley Thomas gave an update on the diversity of faculty and staff at the college, Matt Howe reported on initiatives by the Retention Committee, Dennis Kennedy discussed marketing initiatives related to enrollment, and Clem Campana reported on new employee orientation and onboarding by Human Resources. All are continuing to work on new projects and will keep the committee updated.
The discussion turned to New Faculty Orientation when a committee member asked if adjuncts are invited to attend. Adjunct instructors are invited to orientation and all other faculty meetings and events. Their inclusion also provides opportunities for collaboration and networking with other faculty. A discussion of faculty mentoring — both the Center for Effective Teaching mentor program and informal mentoring by colleagues — also was discussed.
The meeting adjourned at 2 p.m.
Subsequent meetings are Tuesday, Nov. 3, Nov. 24 and Dec. 15.
