An Egg-cellent Experience at the South End Children’s Cafe

Members of the HVCC Honors College had an egg-cellent experience volunteering at the South End Children’s Cafe in Albany on March 28. Windy conditions and snow patches reminiscent of a wintery-spring were no obstacle for the volunteers as they lined the nearby sidewalks, park and basketball area with festive, colorful Easter eggs. Hundreds of eggs filled with candies and toys were hidden among the trees, bushes, fences, benches, basketball hoops and playground equipment. Once the children arrived they enthusiastically rushed all around filling their Easter bags until they were overflowing with goodies.

Thank you to Amani Santos and Tracie Killar from the South End Children’s Café for welcoming us and giving us the opportunity to spread fun and joy with the wonderful children!

The mission of the South End Children’s Café is to impact food security, address food equity and food justice, enhance academic success, and positively influence the physical and mental health of children by offering free healthy meals along with homework help, academic enrichment, mentoring, exercise, and the arts.
