Animal Outreach Club sponsors “After the Finish Line: Saving America’s Horses” on April 16

The  HVCC Animal Outreach Club will host  “After the Finish Line: Saving America’s Horses,”  6 to 8 p.m., Weds., April 16, in the BTC Auditorium.

The panel discussion will include Dr. Lester Friedlander, DVM, the former chief inspector for the US Department of Agriculture; Loni Stewart of the Canadian Horse Defence Coalition; documentary filmmaker Sharon Boeckle; and Steve Caporizzo of WTEN.

Sponsored by the Animal Outreach Club and the New York State Humane Association, the discussion will center on horse slaughter, a practice once legal in the United States and which continues to be debated as a legal option in the United States.  Currently, the U.S. exports live horses to Canada and Mexico, where slaughter and human consumption are legal. America’s horses are then transported to Japan for human consumption, as well. Horses from all backgrounds, including thoroughbred race horses, are subject to this ending.

The event is free and open to the public.
