Annual fire inspection begins Sept. 11

 

The State Fire Marshal will be on campus Sept. 11 through 17 to conduct the annual campus inspection.

Please review the following fire safety reminders and regulations, and be sure your department is in compliance:

1. Keep all exits and means of egress free of items and obstructions.

2. Do not block fire extinguishers.

3. Power strips, extension cords, refrigerators and portable heaters must be plugged directly into wall outlets.

4. Extension cords are for temporary use only. No household extension cords are allowed on campus. (For more information on extension cord safety, please see the following fact sheet.)

5. In storage areas, keep items 24″ below the ceiling in areas with no sprinkler system and 18″ below the ceiling in areas with sprinklers.

6. Burning of candles, incenses or sparklers is prohibited.

7. When cooking, especially popcorn, do not leave food unattended.

8. When you hear or see the fire alarm, immediately gather your items and leave the building. Do not re-enter the building until the “all clear” is given by Public Safety, the Fire Department or Environmental Health and Safety. Please let your students know to take their personal items as well.
