The Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness (AIE) Committee met on July 10. The meeting minutes are as follows:
Dr. Geehan opened the meeting at 1 p.m. She reported that there was no update on Middle States. Dr. Green summarized his experience speaking with incoming President Dr. Ramsammy about Institutional Assessment activities at the college. He relayed that Dr. Ramsammy expressed his feelings about the importance of the Assessment function and the need for information-based decision making. He commented that the Assessment arm of the college will play an important role in helping to inform the college’s future actions.
The committee returned to the task of assessing progress at Hudson Valley against the SUNY SCoA Effectiveness Rubric. It was agreed that we were at the following levels of compliance with the rubric:
Implementation
Sustainability – Excelling
Monitoring – Proficient
Impact
Communication – between Proficient and Excelling
Strategic Planning and Budgeting – between Proficient and Excelling
Closing the Loop – between Emerging and Proficient
The group then shifted to a discussion of Core Indicator #3 – Pluralism. Chief Diversity Officer Ainsley Thomas expressed that although significant progress had been made in several areas, there are still biases evident in some interview committees, and that continued commitment and improved communication from top to bottom are necessary to move progress further.
The meeting was adjourned at 2 p.m.
The final AIE Committee meeting of the summer will be Tuesday, Aug. 21.
