The Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness (AIE) Committee met on March 12 at 1 p.m. The meeting minutes are as follows:
Dr. Geehan opened the meeting at 1 p.m. Mr. Macklin reported that the Mid-Point Middle States report is due in April. This report is now based primarily on financial data independently reported in IPEDS (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System). The mid-point review is a peer review report, which is then reviewed by the Commission.
Ms. Petley updated the committee on the development of the new Strategic Plan. She reported that the Strategic Planning Steering Committee (SPSC) reviewed a first draft that which was conceptual and not yet fully detailed. A second draft, incorporating input from the SPSC, would be available for review on March 26-27. It is expected that the Facilities Master Plan will develop initiatives based on the final Strategic Plan.
Dr. Geehan then reviewed comments about Assessment gleaned from the “listening session” follow-up surveys that were conducted by the Strategic Planning consultant. Many of the comments were in the negative to neutral range. Although it is clear that the Assessment process has resulted in a number of process and organizational improvements, there were still gaps, particularly in college-wide initiatives. Additionally, it was concluded that there is a need for enhanced means of communication with the campus community to raise awareness of the nature of continuous improvement and also the ongoing efforts made by college departments and units. It was recommended to pose this need to Communications/Marketing.
Dr. Geehan then led a review of questions from the upcoming Employee Satisfaction Survey in order to refine them to produce usable and repeatable results, as well as to clarify their meaning. Several questions underwent modification and it was agreed to remove questions # 25 and #32.
The meeting was adjourned at 2 p.m.
The next meeting is Tuesday, March 26.
Subsequent meetings are scheduled for April 9, April 23, May 7 and May 21.
