The Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness Committee met on Oct. 13, 2020. The meeting minutes follow.
Chairman Margaret Geehan opened the meeting at 1 p.m. Joe Stenard gave a Middle States update reporting that he and Dr. Geehan met with the Steering Committee, and that most of the co-chairs have been able to meet with their Working Groups and are now working to adapt their Standards’ criteria into lines of inquiry. Both Margaret and Joe said the Core Team is working on the Institutional Priorities that will be evaluated by this committee and other bodies on campus before they are finalized for the Self Study.
Much of the meeting was devoted to reviewing the Vice President/Executive Director Annual Assessment Summary Report document that in the past was submitted each year for the Institutional Effectiveness Report. The document asks questions regarding the use of assessment results by their area. The committee went over each question and suggested some revisions. The report includes “Exemplary Practices” information that will pertain to Self Study standard Five, which addresses the effectiveness of assessment, and Six. The group also reviewed a 2017 assessment report, submitted by then Vice President for Academic Affairs Carolyn Curtis, as an example.
Finally, committee members discussed whether President Ramsammy should sign off on vice president assessment reports, and whether or not the President’s office was doing its own assessment report. It is believed that Suzanne Kalkbrenner intended to do an Assessment and Unit Plan for the President’s office.
The meeting adjourned at 2 p.m.
The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Subsequent Fall 2020 meetings are Nov. 24 and Dec. 15.
