The Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness Committee met on June 15, 2021.
The meeting minutes are as follows:
Dr. Margaret Geehan opened the meeting at 1 p.m.
ESS Physical Plant Table – Meg Mann provided results from the Employee Satisfaction Survey Table 5 (Physical Plant). The table was mistakenly not discussed during the last AIE Committee meeting. All survey questions within this area saw an increase for 2021.
Middle States Update – The college’s self-study design document was accepted by our MSCHE liaison Dr. Robert Bonfiglio. It is now “full steam” ahead with the Self Study document. Margaret thanked everyone for their work on this.
Assessing the Assessment – Margaret shared a recent email highlighting the most consistently cited standard from MSCHE — Standard 5: Educational Effectiveness Assessment.
Meg discussed the steps the Institutional Assessment Office plans to take to “assess the assessment process” and make the assessment process easier.
General Education Update – Margaret provided an update on the changes being made to the Gen Ed outcomes and courses. The suggested revisions to the SUNY Gen Ed program serves to align them more closely with the Middle States Institutional Student Learning Outcomes. For example, there will be a required diversity competency in all two-year programs, including AOS programs. The SUNY board of trustees will be meeting in July for final approval. Any changes to HVCC courses will most likely not be implemented until Fall 2023.
Core Indicator Review – The group began discussing the Core Indicator Report. Beginning with Goal 2 Student Enrollment, Time to Degree and Retention. The committee discussed the college’s latest enrollment numbers.
The meeting adjourned at 2 p.m.
The next meeting will take place July 6 at 1 p.m.
Subsequent meetings: Aug. 3, and Aug. 24 at 1 p.m.
