Auditions will be held for the play “Almost, Maine” on Wednesday, Feb. 23 and Thursday, Feb. 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Maureen Stapleton Theatre, located in the Siek Campus Center. All current Hudson Valley Community College students are welcome to audition!
Because student members of the Theatre Production Practicum course must participate as actors in order to fulfill course requirements, the number of cast positions available to those who’d like to participate extra-curricularly will be limited. There will be no pre-casting prior to auditions, and all auditioners, including Practicum course members, will be considered for all roles.
Auditioners will be asked to provide contact and schedule information, and will take part in cold readings of scripted material. Auditioners are not required to attend both audition sessions, but may attend both sessions if they’d like. Interested students, who are not able to attend either audition session, should contact Faculty Director Rosanne Raneri at r.raneri@hvcc.edu to arrange an alternate audition day/time.
Auditioners must be available for performances on May 5, 6 and 7 (Thursday, Friday and Saturday), as well as able to arrange availability April 30 through May 4 to attend technical and dress rehearsals. Students who are cast will be asked to attend three rehearsals each week during an eight-week rehearsal period, beginning the first week of March. It is likely that actors will be asked to participate in at least one rehearsal during spring break.
“Almost, Maine” by John Cariani is comprised of nine short plays that explore love and relationships in the remote, mythical town of Almost. The critically-acclaimed show includes elements of both dramatic realism and magical realism genres. The endearing characters of “Almost, Maine” are compellingly revealed through a wide range of comedic, serious and poignant moments, and in ways that, often surprisingly, express the beauty of our human experience and vulnerability.
