The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (9-9) split with Fulton-Montgomery Community College (8-11) on Sunday afternoon. The Vikings lost game one, 15-6, but picked up a victory in game two, 13-12. On Saturday, the team split a pair with FMCC. The Vikings lost game one, 13-11, but came back in game two to pick up the win, 8-4.
On Sunday, the Vikings fell behind in the third inning and couldn’t recover in game one. Zach Steimer (N/A/Ballston Spa) hit a deep home run to left field to rack up three RBIs, and Casey Cohan (Saratoga Catholic/Saratoga) recorded two hits in the loss.
Game two was a back and forth battle that featured six lead changes. Matt Sand (CBA/Altamont) homered in the second to tie the game at two. Eric Mueller (Bethlehem/Glenmont) hit a two-run home run in the fourth, and Mike Sunkes (Catholic Central/Waterford) knocked out a two-run home run in the fifth to cap off a six-run inning. The Vikings pushed across the winning run in the sixth on a Fulton-Montgomery error. Sunkes led the Vikings with three hits and three RBIs, and Brett Fenton (Catholic Central/Troy) recorded three hits and two RBIs.
The baseball team hosts Clinton on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
