The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (8-11) swept Jefferson Community College (2-14) in a double-header, 9-0 and 8-6, on Saturday afternoon.
Bryan Lajeunesse (Albany Academy/Watervliet) picked up the win in game one pitching a complete game shutout with six strikeouts. He pitched himself out of trouble in the fifth inning to keep the shutout alive, leaving three Jefferson runners stranded on base. The Vikings broke a scoreless tie open in the bottom of the fourth inning, producing eight runs.
In game two, Hudson Valley found themselves down two runs heading into the bottom of the fourth. A two-run triple by Luke Burns (Delaware Academy/Bovina) put the Vikings ahead 4-2, and another run later in the inning capped off a five-run fourth inning. Joe Amorosi (Schalmont/Rotterdam) reached base four times, going 3-3 at the plate with a hit by pitch. Jefferson’s late rally was stopped short as Josh Johnson (Tamarac/Wynantskill) settled in on the mound and struck out the final batter with runners in scoring position. Randy Bowers (Bethlehem/Portsmouth, VA) picked up the win pitching six innings with six strikeouts.
The men were scheduled to travel to Jefferson to play a double-header on Sunday.
