Biology Club members had the opportunity to get an inside tour of the research labs at Taconic Biosciences in Albany on Feb. 6.
Club members not only learned about the visions of the company, but also got familiar with the latest technological advances in research. They were awestruck by the robotic PCR machine, Microchip Agarose gel analyzer, and the laser bacterial identifier. They also had the privilege to visit the animal model facility where they were able to see how different strains of mice/rats are generated and cared for.
The staff at Taconic Biosciences were impressed by the curiosity of our students. They were also able to discuss ethical challenges in using animal models for research purposes. At the end of the tour, students were made aware of internships and job openings.
Overall, this was a great exposure for our students to familiarize themselves with careers in Biotechnology and Biological Sciences.
