Blackboard Tip of the Week

In Blackboard 9.1, files that appear in a course (Syllabus, PowerPoint outlines, etc.) actually reside in the Course Files area of that course, which you can access by selecting Files on your course Control Panel and then selecting the link that appears displaying the name of your course.

But did you know that you can create a Repository Course that you can use to store the files for multiple courses?

To do this, you designate a Z-area as a course-files repository; put into the Course Files area of that Z-area the files that you use in any of your courses (or multiple sections of the same course); and then link to those files from your other courses.

One advantage of doing this is, for example, you can link to a Syllabus file that you use in all of your sections of a particular course, and then update all of the links at once by simply updating the Syllabus file in your Repository Course.

You can use the following links to learn more about creating and using a Repository Course:

In addition, keep an eye out for a forthcoming announcement about scheduled workshops on this subject that will be offered through the CET. Finally, if you would like to schedule one-on-one training on how to create and use a Repository Course, please do not hesitate to contact Elissa Baker in the Distance and Online Learning Office (518-629-8196 /e.baker@hvcc.edu)
