Bringing in the Bystander: A Prevention Workshop for Establishing a Community of Responsibility
Thursday, March 17 at 10 a.m.
Wellness Center, Siek Campus Center (room 270)
Larry Ellis and Deanne Martocci, presenters
Rather than focusing strictly on the roles of perpetrator and victim, this evidence-based prevention program uses a community of responsibility approach. It teaches bystanders how to safely intervene in instances where an incident may be occurring or where there may be risk.
This program will help students, faculty and staff:
- IDENTIFY behaviors on a continuum of violence
- DEVELOP empathy for those who have experienced violence
- PRACTICE safe and appropriate intervention skills
- COMMIT to intervene before, during and after an incident of sexual abuse, relationship violence and stalking occurs
For those who are not able to attend on Thursday, March 17, the workshop will be offered again on Tuesday, April 12 at 2 p.m.
