Campus community invited to enjoy Hudson Valley’s Homecoming Weekend events beginning Thursday, Oct. 6

The College invites the campus community to come celebrate Homecoming this Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 6-9. There will be events and activities going on across campus throughout the weekend for students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to enjoy.

The festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, with the annual Fall Fest in the Bruno Stadium. The festival runs until 2:30 p.m. and includes food and beverages, music, and the chance for faculty/staff to face off against students in the annual Viking Cup Challenge softball game at noon.

Saturday’s festivities will kick off at 11:15 a.m. with a tailgate party before the football game at the Bruno Stadium picnic pavilion. WGNA will be on hand to provide music and there will be food and beverages, face painting, and other activities for alumni, students, faculty and staff to enjoy. The tailgate party will go on until 12:15.

During this year’s homecoming, the college is proud to announce the dedication of its new $4.5 million Outdoor Athletic Complex. The new complex was completed in August and includes new turf and natural grass fields, a 400-meter eight-lane track, grandstand seating and bleachers, brand new lighting, and a new scoreboard. A ceremony will be held after the tailgate party and immediately before the homecoming football game kicks off on Saturday to officially dedicate the new complex. The Vikings will face off against Valley Forge Military College for their first game on the new turf field at 1 p.m.

On Sunday, Oct. 9 the college will host its 8th annual Race Away Stigma 5K Race and Fun Walk. The race and walk is meant to help erase the sigma surrounding mental illness. Participants will gather in the Student Pavilion at 8:30 a.m., and the race begins at 10. There will be light refreshments and prizes will be given to the fastest competitors by age group.

Members of the college community who are affiliated with the athletics department are encouraged to reach out to athletic alumni to attend the Athletic Alumni Reunion Reception, on Friday, Oct. 7, from 6-8 p.m.
