Campus Corner: Health Services

Health Service’s mission is to support student development by providing dynamic, student-centered, accessible, inclusive health care addressing the diverse needs of the college community. We assist students and staff in maintaining their best possible physical health. An important goal is to encourage individuals to create an enriching, nurturing environment that will support their well being and day-to-day productivity.

From a request for a safety pin to medical emergencies, Health Services deals with a multitude of situations and provides a wide variety of services to students, staff and faculty, often in collaboration with with New Student Orientation, Athletics, Center for Access and Assistive Technology, Counseling Services, and Human Resources.

Health services offers educational literature on health-related issues ranging from the common cold to depression, stress, and sexual violence, and provides a bridge to community resources and assists with referrals. We welcome “walk ins” for sick visits by students, faculty and staff, and hand out Band Aids, tissues, sanitary products, Chap Stick, hand sanitizer, condoms and sunscreen as needed.

Blood Pressure monitoring is done routinely for both employees and students when recommended by their primary health care provider. Health Services also has an in-house laboratory and is able to perform strep, mono, flu and pregnancy tests, as well as urinalysis and finger sticks. (Please note: both students and employees should report all health-related incidents and accidents to Health Services.)

The Health Services staff is a Viking family — three staff members are alums, two more have taken classes at Hudson Valley and six of our children are graduates of the college.

We believe good things happen at Hudson Valley Community College.

We are Foodies and enjoy celebrating birthdays and other special occasions with pot luck events.
