Campus Giving Cup Challenge!

With Thanksgiving and the Holiday Season upon us, I am writing to remind all members of our Hudson Valley Community College community that the Giving Cup Challenge is off and running for the 2019-20 academic year! ALL are invited to participate, and it’s never too late to join in!

I am truly honored to introduce myself as the new coordinator for the Giving Cup Challenge, and thank Suzanne Pohlmann, program assistant for Mortuary Science, and Kit Haynes, program assistant for History, Philosophy and Social Sciences, for inviting me to take on this role! I understand that Kit coordinated this event for many years; please join me in thanking her for her commitment and service to our campus community!

The Giving Cup Challenge is so much more than a “friendly competition,” among HVCC’s academic departments, offices, clubs, and organizations! It is fun, easy and truly meaningful way to support those who use the college’s Food Pantry.

The steps to participate in the Giving Cup Challenge are:

  1. Get a group together!
  2. Designate a “drop-off” location for your group’s collection.
  3. TALK UP your collection efforts! Let people know your collection location, AND invite and encourage them to donate!
  4. Invite a member of your group to serve as the “Official Item Counter,” who will count the numbers of items received, and regularly report collection numbers to me, Laurie Conroy, program assistant for the School of Health Sciences, at (518) 629-7887 or l.conroy@hvcc.edu.  You may opt to report weekly, monthly, quarterly — whatever works best for your group. If I don’t hear from you for a while, I will check in with a reminder!  (Note: Please count all items individually. For example, a 4-pack of tuna fish = 4 items.)
  5. After counting your items, invite members to deliver your collection to the  college’s Food Pantry, located within the Student Activities Office, CTR 210.
  6. KEEP GOING! Prizes for participation and highest collection totals will be awarded in late April or early May.

Please contact me to sign up your group, submit a count, or with any questions! I look forward to working with you on this project which directly serves and assists members of our HVCC family.
