Congratulations to Campus Security Officer Bobby Hockaday, who completed a week-long training course on Oct. 31 that focused on dealing with emotionally disturbed persons. The college has sent a number of officers to this training in past years.
The training was offered by the Troy Police Department in conjunction with the NYS Department of Criminal Justice Services, the Rensselaer County Mental Health Department and Samaritan Hospital.
The Emotionally Disturbed Persons Response Team Training class is a 40-hour course covering topics including personality disorders, juvenile and elderly issues, mental hygiene law, crisis intervention, medications, hospital and jail protocol, indicators of mental illness, developmental disabilities, communication skills, and role playing. Ret. Sgt. Eric Weaver, formerly of the Rochester Police Department and a pioneer in development of this training, was lead instructor during the training that was held at the Rensselaer County Department of Social Services on Blooming Grove Drive in North Greenbush.
