Roy Pompey, coordinator of the college’s Collegiate Academic Support Program (CASP), was the commencement speaker for the sixth grade graduating class at Ark Community Charter School in Troy on June 26. A long-time community advocate for area students in need, as well as for Hudson Valley students who seek personal and academic support systems, Pompey has been a workshop presenter at Ark in the past.
Ark, an alternative public school for grades kindergarten through five, operates without district control and free of the administrative burdens of public schools.
In his talk, Pompey told the group of 17 graduates and their 300 parents and guests, “You are good enough. No more. No less.” He encouraged the students to never give up on themselves and to always honor themselves and their parents.
