Students who are more actively engaged in college life and have a strong connection to a faculty or staff member are more likely to stay in school and succeed academically. Join us online to learn how you can utilize an innovative advising model at your institution to help retain first-year and transfer students.”

Gardener’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences and Learning Styles in the College Classroom: The Psychology Twist
Every student walks into class with a preferred means of solving problems and adapting to the environment, at least one type of intelligence that aids learning. Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences—verbal, mathematical, spatial, body-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalistic, existential – acknowledges these differences and addresses different learning styles in the classroom. Several activities used in psychology classes will show Gardner’s theory in practice.
Upcoming Session: Thursday, 10/11, 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Blackboard and Slideshare.Com
Slideshare.com is a social media site where you can upload PowerPoint slideshows and convert them into Flash movies, which your students can then view without having to have PowerPoint installed on their computers. In addition, Slideshare.com allows you to insert YouTube videos directly into your PowerPoint slideshows, thus enabling you to transform them into multifaceted learning objects. Better yet, for instructors who use Blackboard in their teaching, there is a mashup tool in Blackboard 9.1 that they can use to embed their Slideshare Flash movies into their Blackboard courses. In this 1 ½ hour workshop, you will learn how to upload PowerPoint files to Slideshare.com; integrate YouTube content into those files; and then embed the resulting Flash movies into your Blackboard course(s) using the Blackboard mashup tool. As well, you will receive tips on how to take optimal advantage of this exciting Web 2.0 technology, and learn what some of the best practices are for integrating it into your face-to-face, hybrid, or online instruction.
Upcoming Session: Friday, 10/12, 10 – 11:30 a.m.
Location: The CET Computer Lab, BTC 1033
