Children & Family Services’ Regional Youth Speak Out brings 100+ foster youth to campus

More than  100 students who participate in the NYS Office of Children and Family Services’ (OCFS) Foster Youth Care Program were on campus Thursday, July 28 to participate in the 2022 Regional Youth Speak Out held at the Joe Bruno Stadium.

The event brought foster youth together to learn and have fun all while having the opportunity to project their voice and be heard, according to Alexandria Ramos, of the OCFS Albany Regional Office.

Special appreciation is extended to members of the college’s  Admissions Office, Center for Access and Assistive Technology (CAAT), Center for Academic Engagement (CAE), Counseling and Wellness, Engineer Science Department, Athletics, the Center for Careers and Transfer, and the Educational Opportunity Center (EOC), who set up information tables for the foster youth participants. We hope to see some of them enrolled at HVCC or the EOC when they graduate from high school.

The Youth Speak Out was another joint community outreach and recruiting project that student affairs and academic affairs arranges to strengthen our partnership with community based agencies.
