When the Capital Region’s unemployment rate rose significantly because of COVID-19, President Ramsammy assembled a task force to help the college respond to a growing demand for specialized training and education for those looking to start a new career.

The result of that task force’s efforts is Career Launchpad, which offers a combination of workforce training opportunities; community and professional education courses; credit-bearing micro-credentials or “career bundles;” and, when appropriate, certificates and degrees that can help quickly retrain individuals and launch them on a new career.

Prospective students are encouraged to explore non-credit and credit courses that will earn them certifications to advance in their field or fast-track training that will allow them to switch careers. Career Launchpad also provides access to Department of Labor information on the career outlook in various sectors to help students choose the path that is right for them.

Gayle Healy and the staff at the college’s Center for Careers and Transfer are offering personalized guidance to prospective Career Launchpad students as they respond to the marketing that’s been created for the initiative. Professional staff from that office are communicating with those interested in exploring careers and discussing how training from Hudson Valley can translate to job opportunities for both the short and long term.

We hope you will share information about Career Launchpad with those who could benefit from this initiative, and forward any prospective student to the Center for Careers and Transfer. In addition to Healy, Jonathan Ashdown, Patricia Myers, Deb Shoemaker, Ricky Thibodeau, Ronalyn Wilson and Kimberly Williams served on the task force.
