College Suites Town Hall meetings will help with Persistence and Retention

In a continuing effort to improve student retention, college staff members were invited to the College Suite Apartment Complex’s Town Hall meeting last week. The apartment complex, located on the corner of Morrison and Vandenburgh Avenue, houses over 260 Hudson Valley students.

The main purpose of the town hall meetings are to ensure that studenttenants are reminded of apartment complex regulations and, according to Mary Christman, property manager, are successful students. Christman invited college staff members to participate, after a meeting during the intersession.

Louis Coplin, interim vice president of Enrollment Management and Student Development, said it’s a great idea as it strengthens the partnership between the college and the apartment complex. “We have common goals. We want our students to be academically successful and to be responsible tenants,” Coplin said. “The opportunity to participate at the monthly town hall meetings is in the best interest of both organizations and more importantly our students.” Future meetings will include academic support and learning skills presentations from staff members.

College staff members participating in the meeting included: Larry Ellis, associate director of the Counseling and Wellness Center; Sandra McCarthy, Title IX coordinator; Ainsley Thomas, chief diversity officer, and Fred Aliberti, director of Public Safety.
