College Takes Steps to Better Promote Student Success

The Office of Communications and Marketing is pleased to announce that the college has begun using readabout.me software from readMedia to publicize student achievements and activities on campus.

Readaboutme.com and its partner software, Hometown Newsmaker, allow us to more efficiently and effectively communicate student achievement – like making the dean’s list or earning a scholarship – to our students’ hometown newspaper.  The software allows us to create personalized stories about these accomplishments and publish them online at readabout.me. These achievements are also sent to the students’ hometown newspapers through readMedia’s Hometown Newsmaker application.

We are trying to make sure students receive appropriate, positive credit for the accomplishments they achieve here on campus. A student’s readaboutme.com online profile allows them to maintain a positive, achievement-based web presence that could aid in obtaining internships, jobs and employment.

The profile serves as an online resume of achievements earned her at Hudson Valley.  According to readMedia, 75 percent of companies research applicants online, and 70 percent have rejected applicants based on what they found about them. A readabout.me profile creates a positive online identity for post-graduation success.

Students who are featured by the college are informed of the announcement through their college e-mail address and encouraged to share their accomplishments with family and friends through social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. This reinforces the positive accomplishment and reflects positively on the institution as a whole.

We are relying on faculty and administrators to submit newsworthy items and student accolades. To learn more about how to submit student accomplishments, visit the College’s Hometown Newsmaker readabout.me submissions page.

If you have any other questions or would like to talk about potential submissions, call Eric Bryant at x8072.
