Students:
After considering a variety of options to celebrate our students’ achievements and reviewing the latest guidelines from New York State, I am pleased to share the final plans for commencement, with both virtual and on campus components.
- All activities will take place on Saturday, May 15, 2021, including four abbreviated in-person ceremonies, organized by program of study, followed by a virtual commencement celebration that will be live streamed that evening.
The on-campus ceremonies will take place in the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium as follows:- Ceremony 1 at 9 a.m.
School of STEM (all degree and certificate programs) - Ceremony 2 at 11:15 a.m.
School of Health Sciences (all degree and certificate programs) - Ceremony 3 at 1:30 p.m.
School of Business and Liberal Arts (Business, Computer Science and Criminal Justice Department programs) - Ceremony 4 at 3:45 p.m.
School of Business and Liberal Arts (all other programs)
- Ceremony 1 at 9 a.m.
- Graduates who would like to attend an in-person ceremony must register to do so at www.hvcc.edu/commencement/on-campus.html by Monday, May 3.
NOTE: Class of 2020 graduates are also invited to register to participate, as the college was not able to host in-person events last year. - Each graduate will be permitted to bring two guests to their on-campus ceremony, who will be seated in the stadium stands per social distancing regulations. Graduates will process into the stadium, hear remarks from President Roger Ramsammy and their academic dean, receive individual recognition, cross the stage, receive their diploma covers, and pose for photos. All four ceremonies will be live streamed online as well.
- COVID-19 Health Screening and Testing/Vaccination requirements are in place for anyone attending an in-person event. Graduates, guests and employees will be required to submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a recent negative PCR test result, and pass a health screening process, before being admitted to the ceremony, per New York State Department of Health guidelines. Note: Current students have the option to participate in pooled surveillance testing in the Campus Center from May 10 to noon on May 12.
- Graduates will be recognized by name in Capital Region daily newspaper wraps on May 15 and on social media leading up to the event. Names will scroll during the online stream of our virtual celebration as well.
- Everyone is invited to view the Virtual Commencement Celebration livestreamed on the college’s commencement website at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, May 15 and include many traditional commencement components.
We look forward to celebrating the achievements of our graduates.
