Annual Pumpkin Launch Competition is Thursday, Oct. 27

On Thursday, Oct. 27 at 11:30 a.m., Engineering Science students will compete in the annual pumpkin launch competition. The event will take place near the putting green on the quad in front of the Siek Campus Center.

All are welcome to come watch the flying pumpkins!

At Halloween time each fall, Engineering Science students are invited to enter the annual pumpkin launch competition, either individually or in teams of up to four members. The students design and build a device to launch an uncooked mini pumpkin at the bucket target, placed approximately 85 feet away. The propulsion must be mechanical — no explosives or compressed gasses are allowed. No slingshot type devices are allowed and the device must be able to be launched without risk of injury to the person(s) doing the launching.

The annual event is coordinated by Dr. Linda Lim, an Engineering Science faculty member and department chair for Computer Science and Mathematics, in partnership with Student Activities and the Athletics Department.
