Group Counseling!
Based on the much appreciated feedback we received from our survey in the fall, we would love to offer the group counseling experience for any who are interested. The group process can be very therapeutic for many individuals. Group counseling can help develop a sense of safety and trust, build confidence and sense of self concept, develop social skills and connections with peers, and finally, feel supported through life’s endeavors.
We are looking to provide a pilot, open group, unstructured counseling experience this semester starting after Spring Break week. What is an open unstructured group? This just means we will allow individuals to join the group after the group has already started and will work with current members through this process. An unstructured group just means that we may cover a number of different topics throughout the duration of the group, rather than have a structured curriculum for each session.
We are looking to run this program until the end of the semester and we are looking at having this group on Wednesdays or Thursdays at noon, depending upon what is feasible for the students interested. We are also open to other timeslots depending on interest and availability. We may have a short interview / screening process for candidates for our group depending upon interest levels, as we may need to limit the number of individuals that can attend our weekly group. We will use this pilot program to gauge how we may format our group counseling experience in future semesters.
