COVID-19 return-to-work exceptions require documentation

COVID-19 Return-to-Work Exceptions

Your supervisor may have already reached out to you to discuss plans for your return to work on campus following administrative leave due to COVID-19. Accordingly, please be aware of important protocols and procedures now in effect for employees working on campus.

You should know that in order to protect the health and safety of our community, the college has developed a COVID-19 Re-Occupancy Safety Plan and supporting protocols. Those plans were created in compliance with NYFORWARD guidance for reopening industries and specifically designed to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission among the college community. They incorporate applicable requirements from Reopening New York “Office-Based Work Guidelines for Employers and Employees” and “Interim Guidance for Higher Education,” OSHA requirements and SUNY guidance. Additionally, specific policies and procedures have been implemented for departments with a higher risk level, specific industry requirements or more complex operations. See www.hvcc.edu/covid19 for details.

The college has put together a comprehensive plan to ensure the safety and health of our students, visitors, staff and faculty, however, if you feel that you are unable to return to work on campus at this time you will need to provide Human Resources with the appropriate documentation and form.

  • If you are temporarily unable to return to work on campus or unable to return to work remotely please submit the Employee First Coronavirus Response Act [FFCRA] Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act [EPSLA] Request Form and send it to the Office of Human Resources.  (This would include any childcare concerns.)
  • If you are able to work remotely, but are unable to return to campus because of your own underlying health issue that may put you at high or higher risk for COVID-19, please contact the Center for Access and Assistive Technology [CAAT] to obtain the information and forms required for an accommodation to be made through the Americans with Disabilities Act [ADA]. The CAAT can be reached at (518) 629-7154 or at caat@hvcc.edu.
  • If you are able to work remotely, but are unable to return to work on campus because of a family member’s underlying health condition, you will need to contact Deb Richey in the Office of Human Resources for the information and form required for an accommodation to be made through the Family and Medical Leave Act [FMLA]. You can reach Deb Richey at (518) 629-4552 or at d.richey@hvcc.edu.
