The Curriculum Committee agenda has been set for Monday, Nov. 5. The meeting will be held in BTC Meeting Room 3 at 2 p.m.

3.0 New Business

3.1 Change in Contact Hours and Course Description – XRAY 104 Radiographic Exposure Physics I – submitted by Erica Cole
The purpose of the requested change is to add a lab hour that is currently offered in the spring with XRAY 114 to the fall with XRAY 104.  The switch of the lab semester will give students the opportunity to be in the laboratory setting earlier in the program providing them a solid foundation of the material they are required to know.  The change in course description reflects the addition of the laboratory component.

3.2 Change in Contact Hours and Course Description – XRAY 114 Radiographic Exposure Physics II – submitted by Erica Cole
The purpose of this requested change is to remove the lab hour that is currently offered in the spring with XRAY 114 to the fall with XRAY 104.  The switch of the lab semester will give students the opportunity to be in the laboratory setting earlier in the program providing them a solid foundation of the material they are required to know.  The change in course description reflects the removal of the laboratory component.

3.3 New Course BIOL 122 Introductory Biomanufacturing – submitted by Peter Schaefer
The proposed new course is intended for entry-level training in the local biomanufacturing industry.  This course is intended to stimulate interest in the field and prepare students for either entry-level positions or encourage them to continue in more advanced training.

3.4 New Course PHYS 240 Atmospheric Structure and Circulation – submitted by Alicia Wasula
The proposed new course is a technical survey of the atmosphere which applies elementary math and physics concepts to the three-dimensional structure of the atmosphere.

3.5 Change in course subject code PHED 275 Professional Issues in Sport and Exercise – submitted by Phil Brown
The proposal requests the change in subject code to SPRT as the content of the course is better served under the SPRT subject code.

3.6 New Course SPRT 100 The Philosophy, Principles and Organization of Athletics in Education – submitted by Andrew Blanchard
This is one of three new course being introduced the will allow a student to become certified as a coach in New York State. It is currently a state law that coaches must possess, or show progress towards, this certification in order to coach in a public school.  The course covers the basic philosophy and principles that are integral parts of physical education, athletics, and general education; state, local and national regulations and policies related to athletics; legal considerations; function and organization of leagues and athletic associations in New York State; the responsibilities of the coach as an educational leader.

3.7 New Course SPRT 101 Health Sciences Applied to Coaching – submitted by Colleen Ferris
This is one of three new course being introduced the will allow a student to become certified as a coach in New York State. It is currently a state law that coaches must possess, or show progress towards, this certification in order to coach in a public school.  This course examines activities designed to study the health sciences as they apply to coaching athletics.

3.8 New Course SPRT 102 Theory and Techniques of Coaching – submitted by Andrew Blanchard
This is one of three new course being introduced the will allow a student to become certified as a coach in New York State.  It is currently a state law that coaches must possess, or show progress towards, this certification in order to coach in a public school.  This course will begin with an introductory phase in which basic concepts common to all sports will be discussed.  Objectives, rules, regulations and policies of athletics, performance skills, technical information, and organization and management practices are among the topics that will be covered.

3.9 Deactivation of the Gallery Management A.S. Degree Program – submitted by Dorothy Reynolds
Since its creation in 2007, this program has not attracted sufficient numbers of students.

3.10 Change in prerequisite and course description PSYC 275 Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences – submitted by Michelle Bannoura
This proposal requests removing MATH 150 College Algebra with Trigonometry and replacing it MATH 110 Intermediate Algebra.  The material covered in MATH 110 is better suited for students taking PSYC 275.  The change in course description makes it more current and better reflects the course content.

3.11 Change in prerequisite and course description PSYC 280 Experimental Psychology – submitted by Michelle Bannoura
The proposal requests that PSYC 275 Statistics for Behavioral Sciences be a prerequisite or corequisite rather than a prerequisite.  Students can benefit from taking PSYC 275 at the same time as PSYC 280.  The change in course description makes it more current and better reflects the course content.

3.12 Deactivation of Insurance Option in the Business Administration A.A.S. Degree Program – submitted by Karen Holmes
The program is being deactivated due to lack of enrollment.  The deactivation will allow the department to assess the program and its viability.  The department believes that the insurance courses are solid in content and will continue to offer them as elective options where applicable.

3.13 Deactivation of Computer Aided Drafting A.A.S. Degree Program – submitted by Dr. Christine LaPlante
The program is being deactivated as it is no longer serving students effectively upon completion of the program.  Students are unable to transfer directly to four year institutions for degrees n computer aided drafting.  The skills necessary for use in industry can be obtained through the one year certificate program.  The department will time upon deactivation to assess the program for the future.

3.14 Deactivation of Alternative Fuels Certificate Program – submitted by Anthony Kossmann
The department has decided to deactivate this program as no students have enrolled to date.  The department will take this time to assess the program for the future.

3.15 Change in prerequisite, catalog description, and 25% Change in Course Content ACTG 200 Accounting Computerized Systems – submitted by James Williams and Accounting Faculty
The proposal requests the addition of CMPT 101 Computer Concepts and Applications as a prerequisite to ensure student success in the course.  The changes in the course are being made in coordination with the concurrent changes to the Accounting A.A.S. curriculum.  The new catalog description is indicative of the changes to the course as proposed.

3.16 New Course ACTG 201 Principles of QuickBooks – submitted by James Williams and Accounting Faculty
This course will include the use of a single entry accounting package as will prepare students for the QuickBooks Certifies User Exam.  The use of QuickBooks is widely used in the accounting profession.

3.17 Change in Degree Requirements for Accounting A.A.S. Degree Program – submitted by James Williams and Accounting Faculty
The following courses are being added to the list of required courses: ACTG 120 Personal Finance, ACTG 210 Principles of QuickBooks, ACTG 216 Advanced Booking Applications, BADM 200 Business Communications, BADM 220 Statistics.  The following courses are being removed from the list of required courses: BADM 111 Legal and Ethical Environment of Business, Accounting Electives (9 credits), Math/Science electives (3 credits), Business Electives (6 credits).  Total credits changed from 63-65 to 62-63.

3.18 Deactivation and Discontinuance of Entrepreneurship option in the Marketing A.A.S. Degree Program – submitted by James Williams
With the introduction of the Entrepreneurship A.A.S. degree program in Fall 2012, students who have interest will have a more relevant and comprehensive option for studies within the field of Entrepreneurship.
