Dear Colleagues,
As the campus community begins a 12-day mission to provide new, warm clothing and personal care products for the guests at Joseph’s House in Troy, the Dental Hygiene Department is leading the way with its fund-raising efforts.
Dental Hygiene has a long history with Joseph’s House, where students and faculty volunteered to cook a dinner for 60+ guests who sought shelter there on a recent cold night.
Currently, the department is selling dental care kits (toothbrush, floss, mouth rinse and regular-size toothpaste) for only $2 per bag. The proceeds, along with those earned through a dental product package recycling program, will benefit the 12 Days of Giving project.
(Stop by FTZ 127 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday to buy the dental care kits. They make great gifts! Please call ahead for large orders, 518-629-7400.)
The goal for 12 Days of Giving is to collect much-needed personal care necessities and NEW clothing (especially cold-weather gear) for the shelter guests, both men and women. We’re aiming for 1,200 items!
As donations are collected, they will be highlighted in the Campus Chronicle as inspiration throughout the 12 Days of Giving that will conclude on Thursday, Dec. 13 (weekend days are not included). It is my hope that there will be at least one act of generosity or creative fund-raising tactic to mention every day of this giving initiative!
Please see the 12 Days of Giving kick-off article that appeared in the Campus Chronicle on Nov. 27 for important details on what items are most needed and how to make a monetary donation.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact me at c.bosco@hvcc.edu or (518) 629-7409 or Laurie Conroy at l.conroy@hvcc.edu or (518) 629-7887.
The holiday season is once again upon us, and I would really love to see Hudson Valley employees join together to help those in our community who are less fortunate.
Sincerely,
Carol Bosco
Dean of Health Sciences
